DB: With so many different types of mapping software, combined with travel and organisation apps on the market, what sets this out from the rest already competing for downloads?
Currently most travelling apps merely focus on a reservation service, accompanied with other functions that give assistance to complete the transaction online. However, our app ToUmaps is totally a tourist-oriented design. It will begin with getting a deep understanding of tourists’ needs of “before travel”, “during travel” and “after travel” in order to achieve what we call “smart travel”. What we provide is a one-stop service app for travellers. The major difference between ToUmaps and other travelling apps is that we digitalize the app to make travelling more intelligent, and to earn profits by selling it to governments and companies while other apps make money from customers.
DB: There are certain limitations to apps like this in terms of mapping and organisation apps aimed at the travelling community, is there a certain direction you see this app going and where it may end up?
ToUmaps’ future trend will rest in “smart travel + big data”. We will turn every route during travelling ‘smart’ and then map them into a “smart travel” system. In the meantime we will combine software and hardware together in an intelligent way in order to process the analysis of big data, including smart management analysis, tourist preference analysis, hotel & homestay hotel analysis, tourist attraction analysis, tourist behavior analysis and tourist area monitoring. In general we offer a smarter and more convenient service for tourists, so as to attain all the information from them by using our app and we turn this information into data, which can assist us to further better our service for our app-users.
DB: For the traveler this app is very useful but as a business or a larger organization how do you see the app integrating in that world and being part of a larger system?
Business travellers are one of our target users. Business travel and leisure travel share certain similarities and differences, because the intention of the trip of individuals vary their needs also vary to. At present our app provides useful messages and information according to different needs of people, and thus we can distinguish different needs of customers by doing so. In the near future we will consider developing ToUmaps into two versions. One is for the average tourist and the other is for the business traveller, we believe tailor-made service yields the best experience.
DB: Congratulations on winning your award at the DCIC, how did you feel being recognised for all the hard work you and your staff have put into the company?
Firstly I need to thank Sanjiaoling and other organisers and sponsors for holding this fabulous event, which enables more people to know about ToUmaps and provide such an international platform for us to exchange and learn from other excellent companies. As our app is gaining more and more recognition and popularity, we believe that ToUmaps is what people currently need and the future of it will of course be getting better. Everytime I think about this I get so emotional and moved because our team has been working so hard on this to offer the best service and experience to our app-users. We faced a lot of doubts and failure and I even thought about giving up, but quickly I threw this thought away and we started to fight again. We kept trying harder and harder, and now we succeed. I faithfully believe in my product and my team and so did the DCIC.
DB: The DCIC Awards as you may know has the aim of bringing creative and innovative minds alike together to create a greater connection within the Pearl River Delta Area, what do you think about this particular initiative?
Many people’s glories are buried because of the lack of opportunity. They perhaps either never think of fighting for it, or have tried very hard but still failed to catch the opportunity. China is large in population and land and there are so many products that people hardly care to discover, however, this DCIC event offers us a platform to shine and to be known. I hope via this event more and more companies and good products can shine as we do.
