From 18th December onwards, the immersive exhibition is open to public, with a time tunnel, videos, photos, display items and interactive games, so as to allow audiences to immerse themselves in the changes that have occurred in China over the past 40 years. The exhibition will last for two weeks until 30th December. The event was co-organized by Guangdong Radio and Television and the Guangzhou Library, in collaboration with GRT’s Radio News Center and News Radio.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. Guangdong, as the vanguard, pioneer and experimental area of reform and opening up, has made remarkable achievements which have attracted the attention of the world. After nearly one year of rigorous preparation, Guangdong Radio and Television’s Radio News Centre and GRT’s Radio News Channel have launched a brand-new multi-media series of reports titled “40 Years, 40 Witnesses” which documents the stories of foreign friends who have experienced China’s reform and opening up. Starting from 28th November, the series has been aired simultaneously on multiple international and Chinese platforms, including the London-based Babcock Media Services Ltd., the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Guangdong Radio and Television’s Radio and TV channels as well as on new media platforms. The series can be seen and heard by audiences from across 50 countries and regions, enabling them to experience the magnificent history and massive achievements brought about by China’s reform and opening up over the past four decades.
To produce the series, GRT sent five overseas interview teams to Oceania, Africa, Eastern Europe, North Europe and North America to interview 40 guests that included foreign dignitaries, China experts and international think-tank academics as well as professionals from different sectors such as finance, culture and sports in order to record their “Guangdong stories” and “China stories”.
In the series of reports, audiences can see China’s reform and opening up through the perspectives of foreigners from across the world. Former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin expressed that Chinese President Xi Jinping once said, Guangdong is not only an important window showcasing achievements made by China’s reform and opening up, but also an important window of observing China’s reform and opening by the international society. He also expressed that he is the best witness of Guangdong’s reform and opening up for the past 40 years. Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, USA expressed that the State of Michigan is now third in the United States in terms of employment, thanks to cooperation with China over the past eight years. Because of development over the past four decades, China has become a major player in the world economy. He believes that this will be a phenomenon that will continue to happen, that is, globalization will continue to intensify. Many of those interviewed mentioned the importance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area as part of China’s deepening reform and opening up. Barter Wu, President of U.S.-China Association for Promotion of Economy and Trade, who has participated in the Canton Fair for 50 consecutive sessions, believes that Guangdong is realizing the transformation from a period of quantities being emphasized to a period that has seen an improvement in quality. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area will offer an important opportunity and be a strategic move for Guangdong to further deepen reform and opening up.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Cai Fuqing, President of Guangdong Radio and Television, said during his speech, that “Guangdong is the window to China’s reform and opening up. With a mission of ‘Bridging China and the world, connecting the globe’, Guangdong Radio and Television has endeavoured to build itself into an international communication platform. We hope to share ‘Guangdong stories’ and ‘China stories’ with the international community via radio and television shows. Meanwhile, foreign friends from across the world are also welcome to introduce their culture and customs through our platforms to boost mutual understandings. Let’s share more, interact more with one another, and leave a huge ‘like’ for the event.”
What’s more, the organizer launches a H5 new media product featuring the “40 years of time travel” experience, enabling the public, either through their own mobile phones or on location at the exhibition, to experience and participate in the dramatic changes and massive achievements which have been brought about by China’s reform and opening.
