With the Year of the Rat just around the corner, Chinese families are looking forward to spending some quality time together at home. Consul generals in Guangzhou and their family members also gathered to celebrate the new year ahead.
On January 15th, San Jiao Ling (SJL) assisted the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province in hosting the 2020 GDFAO Night. Aside from being a celebration of the Year of the Rat, the event was an opportunity to promote cultural harmony. The theme of the night was “celebrating your uniqueness”. In accordance with the theme, the event aimed to strengthen bonds between Chinese and foreign cultures. It was a chance for consul generals from all over the world to discover more about the one-of-the-kind Lingnan culture.
Located in the Guangdong, SJL is a PR agency with rich experience when it comes to working with local governments. SJL is committed to meeting the needs of clients and producing theme-focused events with exceptional features. From the point of conception to execution, SJL meticulously delivers on each detail and exercises creativity and innovation at every corner.
The success of the event was largely down to its visual design. SJL has designed many visual identities for the Foreign Affairs Office with the theme of the Spring Festival in mind. At the event, SJL paired a circular pattern with a lilac and orange-red gradient as the background to convey the feeling of rebirth at sunrise. The design also represented the idea of leaving behind the old and welcoming the new. At the core of the theme exists the importance of harmonious existence. This was emphasised using fluttering lines that intertwine and fuse together like flying ribbons. The visual design for this particular event won the approval of the Foreign Affairs Office and ran throughout. It is particularly fitting for the new year, as it echoes the theme of harmony and the arrival of something new. To complete the look, SJL carefully designed a huge Chinese fan in the sign-in area. It is the first thing that guests saw when they arrived. Guests were offered the chance to leave a message on the fan using a writing brush and ink. The fan made for guest to take some stunning Lingnan-style photos and was one of the centerpieces of the event’s decor.
In the spirit of cultural integration and mutual learning, there was a selection of Chinese and international performances to be given to the leaders, consul generals and their relatives. Guangzhou is a prime place for cultural integration. Not only does it celebrate the lifeblood of Lingnan culture, but it also welcomes foreign cultures from all over the world.
During the event, Ms Tulu Icozu, one of the most celebrated opera singers in Hungary and Turkey, performed a selection of operas with Ms. Katarzyna Boreka, one of Poland’s leading pianists of the young generation. Their performance provided guests with the opportunity to experience a new and exotic culture. Additionally, Mr. Cui Keqin, a national first-level actor from Guangdong Puppet Art Theater, presented a special performance of “Puppet Love”. Mr. Cui interacted with the puppet, and told a story of love.
Moreover, Lingnan culture boasts a rich intangible cultural heritage. To give the consul general in Guangzhou a deeper understanding of Lingnan’s intangible cultural heritage, SJL designed four unique booths for inheritors from Chao Embroidery, Canton Porcelain, Guangzhou Cake Mold and Huisu Art to present their technique. The consul generals not only accumulated knowledge about the artistic expression of these intangible heritage but also gained a deeper understanding of the policies of Chinese cultural conservation.
2020 GDFAO Night is the first event that SJL has co-organized this year. Once again, the event highlights the characteristics of SJL’s “creative planning” and “efficient execution”. As the Spring Festival approaches, SJL wishes you a happy Chinese New Year. We are looking forward to reaching a partnership with you in the future!
